A Hernia occurs when an internal part of the body pushes through a weakness in the muscle or surrounding tissue wall. Causes Ultimately, all hernias are caused by a combination of pressure and an opening or weakness of muscle or fascia. The pressure pushes an organ or tissue through the opening or weak spot. Sometimes the muscle weakness is present at birth. But more often, it happens later in life. Symptoms & signs A bulge in the area on either side of your pubic bone, which becomes more obvious when you’re upright, especially if you cough or strain. A burning or aching sensation at the bulge. Pain or discomfort in your groin, especially when bending over, coughing or lifting. A heavy or dragging sensation in your groin. Treatment open surgery – where a cut is made to allow the surgeon to push the lump back into the tummy. laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) – this is a less invasive, but more difficult, technique where several smaller cuts are made, allowing the surgeon to use various special instruments to repair the hernia Prevention Here are five things you can do to help prevent an inguinal hernia. Use proper lifting techniques. Athletes or those who do heavy lifting, are at risk of an inguinal hernia every time they pick up something. Maintain a recommended healthy body weight. A fissure operation refers to a surgical procedure performed to treat an anal fissure. An anal fissure is a small tear or split in the lining of the anus, which can cause pain, bleeding, and discomfort during bowel movements. While many anal fissures can heal on their own with conservative treatments such as dietary changes, topical ointments, and sitz baths, some may require surgical intervention, particularly if they are chronic or severe.
